What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is not an alternative to medicine nor is it complimentary to medicine. It is a separate and distinct science, art and philosophy of health and healing. Chiropractic is the largest natural healing art in the world. It is based on the premise that the body is a self healing organism and that the nervous system is the master control system of the body.
Minor displacements of the spinal bones, known as vertebral subluxations, can cause endangering stress to the spinal cord which acts as the main line of intelligence for the whole body. These displacements, or subluxations, are the cause of many of the unwanted health conditions that people suffer from every day. Although there have been many valuable techniques that have been developed in the chiropractic profession, the Gonstead System is considered a “Gold Standard” for chiropractic techniques because of its record of safety and effectiveness in correcting vertebral subluxation.
What is a Subluxation?
A Subluxation occurs when two bony structures become misaligned to the degree where disc or ligament protrusion from swelling produces pressure of nerve fibers. In addition, when a vertebra loses its normal position it also loses its ability to move property.
What causes a Subluxation?
There are many factors that can cause a subluxation, for example, trauma from car accidents, improper lifting, and falls are among some of many causes. Improper exercise, poor diet, emotional stress, and inadequate sleep are also some other factors that can gradually wear down parts of the spine and lead to subluxation. Subluxation can occur as early as childbirth due to the fact that the infant’s spine (particularly the neck) can undergo an incredible amount of stress during the birthing process.
How do you fix a Subluxation?
A doctor of chiropractic is the only health care provider trained and experienced at detecting, reducing, correcting, and preventing subluxations. Your Gonstead doctor conducts a thorough evaluation of your spine and addresses those specific areas of subluxation. The longer a subluxation has to degenerate, the worse it affects your body’s function and the more difficult to correct. For these reasons. We encourage you to have periodic spinal checkups.
