Experience The Gonstead Difference...

What is a Subluxation?

A Subluxation is a Disorder of the Disc.  Dr. Gonstead was effective with catapulting the profession into  a different direction when he described the mechanism of the subluxation.  He described the process of the misaligning of the intervertebral disc that resulted from trauma in a single incident or ongoing incidents that caused the body of the vertebra to shift, compressing the disc , and causing pressure to  the nucleus.  The annulus fibers of the disc would be stretched beyond their limits damaging the fibers.  Inflammation would result due to the stretching of the fibers.  The disc would cause pressure on the nervous system and the body would present symptoms of that dysfunction.

What causes a Subluxation?

There are many factors that can cause a subluxation, for example, trauma from car accidents, improper lifting, and falls are among some of many causes.  Improper exercise, poor diet, emotional stress, and inadequate sleep are also some other factors that can gradually wear down parts of the spine and lead to subluxation.  Subluxation can occur as early as childbirth due to the fact that the infant’s spine (particularly the neck) can undergo an incredible amount of stress during the birthing process.

How do you fix a Subluxation?

A doctor of chiropractic is the only health care provider trained and experienced at detecting, reducing, correcting, and preventing subluxations.  Your Gonstead Doctor conducts a thorough evaluation of your spine and addresses those specific areas of subluxation.  The longer a subluxation has to degenerate, the worse it affects your body’s function and the more difficult to correct.  For these reasons. We encourage you to have periodic spinal checkups.
